How to Travel with Your Pet Safely on Car Rides

If you have to go somewhere, taking a car ride is the fastest and most reliable form of transportation. Sure, you can take the Uber, bus, train, etc., but taking your car is the best way because you are free to go wherever you want without any restrictions or high fees. However, when it comes to transporting your pet, taking your pet in your car isn’t the easiest thing in the world. As pets aren’t used to riding in cars to go places, they won’t feel comfortable while traveling and won’t be safe as well.

Although it isn’t easy, it may sometimes be necessary to take your pet along with you, whether it be a vacation for a few days where no one is home or whether you are visiting your relative and want to take your pet with you. Below, we have some tips that will help you and your pet have car trips that are more comfortable and safer.

Ultimately, the best method would be to visit your vet to see what they think is best, but we also recommend that you read our tips below to help your pet have a more comfortable and safer trip.

Tips to Have a Safer Ride

The best way to keep your pet safe would be to have your pet inside a cat carrier or a kernel because this will offer your pet safety and stability during the ride. It is also important to note that the carrier or kernel should be attached to your car in some way, so that if there are any bumps or sudden stops during the ride, your pet won’t be thrown against the wall since the container will be attached to the car.

Another tip that you can utilize for longer trips is to have your pet prepared for it. If you know that you must take your pet on a long trip in a week or so, then we recommend that you prepare your pet by taking your pet on shorter trips to areas where you know your pet has fun. So you would make trips to the pet café or pet parks and slowly increase the distance to these locations so by the time the longer trip comes, your pet won’t feel as stressed.

One thing that we recommend for you is to bring a litter pad or a litter box with you on your trip as this will allow you to have your pet’s waste be in a place where you can clean it up easily without having to clean the container or make your pet must stay in its waste for a long period of time. This can make your pet’s experience awful and make you have to deal with the smell for a long time.

A safety issue that you should take into consideration is if you have a pet that is big enough to sit in the front with you while driving, then don’t let it stick its face out of the window as it is both dangerous to your pet and to other drivers. It is dangerous for your pet because there may be debris and dust flying around due to the cars and if it gets inside of your pet’s body through the eyes, nose, or mouth, then it might cause an infection in your pet’s lungs or stomach. Also, if your pet drools a lot, then the drool might go onto the windshield of the car behind you, affecting their view and possibly causing a car crash.

It isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but we recommend that you take your pet with you if you have to go somewhere with your pet as it is a lot more effective and cost-friendly than leaving your pet with a sitter if you have to go somewhere.…
